How to judge a ventilation system

Where is moisture removed?Bathrooms, kitchens and laundries need an effective path for humid air to leave.

What airflow does it deliver?Look at real installed airflow and system resistance, not just the fan's maximum rating.

Centralised or decentralised?

Centralised systems can be an excellent option where there is space for the central unit and ductwork can be planned effectively. They are particularly attractive in some new builds and major renovations.

Decentralised systems distribute the equipment around the home. This can be useful for existing homes, renovations, additions or buildings where installing a large central duct network is difficult.

What about condensation?

Ventilation can reduce indoor moisture by replacing humid indoor air with drier air when outdoor conditions allow. But condensation also depends on heating, insulation, glazing, thermal bridging, building airtightness and the amount of moisture generated inside the home.
